Revitalises and clears the mind

Indian head massage is based on the Ayurvedic system of healing which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. It provides Indian families with relaxation and healing on a daily basis.  Ayurvedic texts which date back nearly 4000 years describe that, when used in conjunction with herbs, spices and aromatic oils, massage had an important medical function and could not only “strengthen muscles and firm skin”, but also encourage the body’s innate healing energy.

Indian Head Massage works on areas affected by mental and emotional stress. In Western culture today we spend much of our time in our heads, so this treatment can really help to calm the mind and is surprisingly deeply relaxing. Working with a firm and gentle rhythm it helps to relieve muscular discomfort and tension as well as calming the spirit and aiding relaxation.  It also improves circulation in the head, enhances the senses and promotes clear thinking.

The massage usually begins with the upper back, where a combination of deep massage and pressure points help to relax the muscles and to loosen and melt knots. Moving through the shoulders and upper arms further releases the common spots for holding stress and tension, and then working deeply into the neck where tension accumulates, relieves headaches and improves cerebral spinal fluid circulation. Moving up to the scalp, techniques are used that stimulate, relax and revive the whole of the head, increasing circulation and promoting healthy hair. Finally the treatment includes a gentle face massage with techniques that help circulation, skin tone, and sinus and headache problems. Heat and energy from the therapists hands are held over the face and head to help re-balance the Chakras.

stressedThis therapy can be performed with or without oils, with the client in a seated position and fully clothed.  It is therefore ideally suited to the workplace.

Based on the Ayurvedic system, Indian Head Massage offers a holistic treatment, working with the body, mind and spirit connection.  It is believed that three of the major energy centres (Chakras) of the human body can be found in and around the head.  These are the brow, the crown and the throat.  Acting on a physical, mental and subtle level, Indian head massage stimulates these important energy centres, so helping to maintain the important balance of energy within the body, which in turn promotes a sense of well being, positive energy and relaxation.

Indian Head Massage revitalises and clears the mind, which in turn improves concentration and mental responsiveness.  It also helps to improve memory capabilities and promotes a deep and lasting sense of peace, calm and tranquillity.
